Simply drawn and set against a white background, Elephant and Piggies expressive faces and body language are irresistible. The Basics of Associated Press Style
The Basics of Associated Press Style One of the first things a student in a beginning journalism course learns about is Associated Press style or AP style for short. AP style is simply a standardized way of writing everything from dates to street addresses to job titles. AP style was developed and is maintained by The Associated Press, the worldââ¬â¢s oldest news service. Why Do I Have to Learn AP Style? Learning AP style is certainly not the most exciting or glamorous aspect of a career in journalism, but getting a handle on it is absolutely necessary. Why? Because AP style is the gold standard for print journalism. Itââ¬â¢s used by the vast majority of newspapers in the U.S. A reporter who never bothers to learn even the basics of AP style, who gets into the habit of submitting stories filled with AP style errors, is likely to find himself covering the sewage treatment board beat for a long, long time. How Do I Learn AP Style? To learn AP style you must get your hands on an AP Stylebook. It can be purchased at most bookstores or online. The stylebook is a comprehensive catalog of proper style usage and has literally thousands of entries. As such, it can be intimidating to the first-time user. But the AP Stylebook is designed to be used by reporters and editors working on tight deadlines, so generally, itââ¬â¢s pretty easy to use. Thereââ¬â¢s no point in trying to memorize the AP Stylebook. The important thing is to get into the habit of using it whenever you write a news story to make sure your article follows proper AP style. The more you use the book, the more youââ¬â¢ll start to memorize certain points of AP style. Eventually, you wonââ¬â¢t have to refer to the stylebook nearly as much. On the other hand, donââ¬â¢t get cocky and toss out your AP Stylebook once youââ¬â¢ve memorized the basics. Mastering AP style is a lifelong, or at least career-long, pursuit, and even expert copy editors with decades of experience find they must refer to it regularly. Indeed, walk into any newsroom, anywhere in the country and youââ¬â¢re likely to find an AP Stylebook on every desk. Itââ¬â¢s the Bible of print journalism. The AP Stylebook is also an excellent reference work. It includes in-depth sections on libel law, business writing, sports, crime, and firearms ââ¬â all topics that any good reporter should have a grasp of. For instance, whatââ¬â¢s the difference between a burglary and a robbery? There are a big difference and a novice police reporter who makes the mistake of thinking they are one and the same thing is likely to get hammered by a tough editor. So before you write that the mugger burgled the little old ladyââ¬â¢s purse, check your stylebook. Here are some of the most basic and commonly used AP style points. But remember, these represent only a tiny fraction of whatââ¬â¢s in the AP Stylebook, so donââ¬â¢t use this page as a substitute for getting your own stylebook. Numbers One through nine is generally spelled out, while 10 and above are generally written as numerals. Example: He carried five books for 12 blocks. Percentages Percentages are always expressed as numerals, followed by the word ââ¬Å"percent.â⬠Example: The price of gas rose 5 percent. Ages Ages are always expressed as numerals. Street, Avenue, and Boulevard are abbreviated when used with a numbered address but otherwise are spelled out. Route and Road are never abbreviated. Example: He lives at 123 Main St. His house is on Main Street. Her house in on 234 Elm Road. Dates Dates are expressed as numerals. The Fundamental Causes of the Womens Movement Essay
The Fundamental Causes of the Womens Movement - Essay Example In the 1960s, the National Organization for Women fought the good fight to bring women's rights and equality for all to the forefront, while at the same time some women, like Phyllis Schlafly, were very vocal against feminism and women's movement. Nonetheless, reformers have made great strides towards equality in society today, both in the workplace and within the home. The proverbial "glass ceiling" that keeps women from substantial promotions in the workplace still exists, and there are definite strides to be made, however, as time passes and outdated ideals and beliefs are shattered, total equality for women may be just a short distance down the road. The women's rights movement began in the first half of the nineteenth century. From the emergence of the suffrage movement in the 1850's until women obtained the right to vote in 1920, suffrage became the primary goal of the women's rights movement. Suffrage included a set of grievances such as unequal wages, inequality at work, unsanitary working conditions, and limited job options. This movement also targeted the suffering of the non-working woman as well, such as married women's property rights and the suffrage of women overall. This led to the first women's rights convention held at Seneca Falls, New York in 1848 (Baker 24). An outspoken proponent of women's rights was Francis Wright who gained prominence within the women's movement in the late 1820's as a colorful, sensational speaker. She spoke out against slavery and also believed that marriage was a coercive institution and advocated replacing current laws on marriage with a non-legal bond called "generous attachment", based only on mutual respect and love and not regulated by any legal authority (24). Because she was a woman, her speeches were considered radical and improper and her detractors labeled her a "Red Harlot" along with any other woman who followed her or attended her lectures (25). Frederick Douglas, a well-known reformer within the anti-slavery movement, was also a staunch supporter of women's rights, and as early as 1848 demanded the vote as an essential right of women (42). Furthermore, Susan B. Anthony, an American civil rights leader, played a pivotal role and wrote often about the women's suffrage movement. In her writings, many t imes she equated the women's movement with the anti-slavery movement. She stated: the 'Woman Suffrage Movement,' was the Anti-Slavery struggle (31) Anthony was also a paid agent of the American Anti-Slavery Society as well as a suffragist (42). In 1875, a major court case, Minor v. Happersett, arose out of the quest to vote by a woman named Virginia Minor. She attempted to cast her vote in St. Louis and the registrar, Happersett, refused to permit her to do so. Minor was the president of the Woman's Suffrage Association of Missouri and her husband was a prominent attorney. They sued the registrar for denying her what they believed was her privilege and immunity of citizenship. The court in Minor v. Happersett decided against her and Minor appealed her case to the United States Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled that if the founders wanted to include suffrage in the constitution, it would have been explicitly stated. The Court refused to interpret the constitution any other way and decided that

Delta Airlines Employee Motivation and Performance - Research Paper Example However, an employee can only be eligible for such privileges after working for an initial minimum of thirty days. The travel privileges can be used across all the destinations that are covered by Delta Airlines. Through this program, employees in the airline have been able to travel to different global destinations and they reciprocate in appreciation of their employerââ¬â¢s effort make their work experience enjoyable. The reciprocation is seen through improved employee performance and proper relations with the Airline management (Nelson, & Quick, 2013). In addition, the employeesââ¬â¢ relatives can also enjoy the travel privileges. Spouses, minors mainly students and parents are entitled to the provision of free travel services. Employeesââ¬â¢ children that are nondependent travel companions and friends can also enjoy reduced travel charges. It is notable that the employeesââ¬â¢ families are an integral part of their lives and may play a big role in compelling them to keep working at the airline. If the families and friends receive such privileges, they may impact positively on the employeesââ¬â¢ attitude towards their role at the airline. Consequently, the employees are compelled to keep working for the airline and develop a positive assertiveness towards the execution of their duties (Grodal, Nelson & Siino, 2015). The employees and their family members eligible for the travel privileges are expected to be on board after other commercial passengers have boarded the flights. Therefore, they occupy the spaces that are still available after all the revenue travellers are on board. Before the travel privileges are activated, the employees are expected to pay an activation fee amounting to fifty dollars. The travel privileges are applicable after the proper guidelines are adhered to and relate to all the employees. In order to maintain its well-established status in the airline industry, Delta Airlines offers a number of rewarding benefits to

Importance of Time Lapses in Death of a Salesman :: English Literature
Why does Arthur Miller use time lapses in his play ââ¬Å"Death of a Salesmanâ⬠? What was the playwright trying to tell us about Willy Loman? In this essay I will be exploring and analysing ââ¬Å"Death of a Salesmanâ⬠by Arthur Miller. I will be looking the use of flash backs in the play that aim to emphasise that the past is always with us. Looking at the flashbacks will also help understand the character of Willy Loman. The action takes place in Willy Lomanââ¬â¢s house and yard also in various places he visits in New York and Boston of 1949. The play was set in post war America. This is after the great Depression, when people had a different point of view and wanted to achieve the ââ¬Å"American Dreamâ⬠. The American Dream is the longings of people who wanted to develop the country, to amass money and enjoy a comfortable, not to be at the beck and call of the employer. The figure of a salesman was at the cutting edge of the American Dream, a self made person that did not sell his products but his personality. The play shows a series of chronological events which take place during one evening and the next day. At intervals throughout the play we see scenes from Willyââ¬â¢s past enacted on the same stage at the same time. On first impression this would seem more likely to confuse the audience rather than reveal, but Miller had strong reasons for staging the play in this way. It is my belief that playwright tells us the past is not something which is now behind us. The past is always with us informing and influencing our actions. To understand the character of Willy Loman, we must be aware of the emotional burdens he carries with him from the past. To show an example of these recollections I have selected a scene in Act Two. Willy is sitting in a restaurant where he has been invited by the boys, in anticipation of the fact that Biff will be able to secure a loan from Bill Oliver. Willy has just been laid off from his old job, and is hoping that Biff has some good news for him so that Linda can be happy as he knows she has always been loyal to him and made many sacrifices. Willy said ââ¬Å"she has waited and she has sufferedâ⬠. This shows how loyal and hard working Linda has been to the family, sacrificing to save money. Evidence of this is shown by the stockings that she sits down with and mends so money can be saved.

Meditech Organization and Systematic Issues Essay
1. What are Meditechââ¬â¢s problems in introducing new products? In manufacturing ALL products? Meditech was continuously turning its products obsolete by introducing new products. Every time a new product was introduced it resulted in serious supply problems, which in turn resulted in the dissatisfaction of customer due to poor service resulting from each product introduction. The variation of production schedules was often higher than variation in demand. Another problem was monthly forecasting that was the base of determining assembly schedules and parts orders. 2. What is driving these problems, both systematically and organizationally? The driver of the problem was the way to determine the production planning and scheduling. The Material Requirement Plan (MRP) system, which determines assembly schedules and part orders was based on three components one of them is the monthly forecast which was an erroneous approach. Customer Service and Distribution department could not figure out why Meditech consistently had shortages with each product introduction. Their distribution system was decentralized; the information existed on many systems in several different areas of the organization which make it even more difficult to realize what the problems were. 3. Why is the customer service manager the first person to recognize major issues? Customer services deals with everything from occasional customer complaints to establishing strategies to improve delivery to customers. Customer service department noticed that customers were becoming tired of the poor service resulting from each introduction. Through many meetings with hospital material managers, they began to realize about its customerââ¬â¢s frustrations when handling new products. 4. How would you fix these problems? The demand of any product is higher during the introduction stage and growth stage after that the demand of that same product will decrease during the maturity stage, therefore the supply could also be reduced so they wonââ¬â¢t experiment surplus. As the book suggested I would change the method of planning production schedules. Instead of using monthly forecasting they should use more simple statistical methods. 5. Relate the learning of this case to a similar supply chain with which you are familiar? Iââ¬â¢m familiar with a different industry that can experiment supply and demand differences, it is the case of restaurant distributors. Certain foods such as fruits and vegetables become obsolete in a very short period of time, so the distributors may get a lost if they donââ¬â¢t receive orders from restaurants, that is the reason why if there is an unexpected increase in demand they must be ready and have a back up or find a way to supply their customers, or else the distributors can lose customers. Restaurants on the other hand might have ten customers one day and seventy the next day so they also need a prestigious supplier to rely on in the case of sudden demand.

It helps improve neuropsychological and attention in schizophrenia, hence an improved psychological outcome. There were three teams which were in the production of the drug and they were exploratory development team, project development team, clinical development and brand development team. They were tasked with discovery research, exploratory and full development, filling, launching and growth and maintenance. The major team was the clinical development team whose main roles were developing a clinical development plan, manage its execution and compiling the clinical portion of the regulatory submission in form of a case report form (CRF). There are two models under study design. These are traditional model and Innovative/adaptive model. Traditional model is further divided into phase 1,2,and3. Phase 1, the drug safety and tolerability must be established. One has to start with no-effect dose then later on take maximally tolerated dose. The dose range of cover 3-5 fold difference. During the initial stages single dose is recommended but between 5-7 days, multiple dose is advised.à Under phase 2 is further subdivided into phase 2a and phase 2b, the sample size is usually above 50 patients depending on the state of the disease. Our writers will create an original "Trial Of DMXB-A in Schizophernia" essay for you Create order Phase 2a which also known as pilot studies. Its initial step also is to determine the safety, efficacy and tolerability in patients, tolerated dose range in patients is also established. Thereafter evaluation is done on relevant biomarkers and pharmacokinetic parameters in patients. Estimation of degree of variation is also essential. Proof of concept states that the drug must demonstrate right pharmacology, appropriate therapeutic index and reach intended target and intended tissues. It should also be enriched with collection of data such as plasma and genomic (Meyer et al.). Adaptive trial uses accumulating data from ongoing study. Its advantage is that it increases the likelihood of selecting phase 3 dose and it use more ethical treatment considerations. The early phase of adaptive trial is to find safe and effective dose while the later phase makes prospective changes to future trials. The traditional plan of adaptive design takes a duration of 16-22 week whereby SAD (4-5 dose) and MAD (3-4 dose) are administered. While modified adaptive design takes a duration of 12-18 weeks. Phase 2b one determines the dose range and level of phase 3 while confirming the its primary endpoints and estimating treatment effects. Phase 3 includes pivotal trials which generate clinically and statistically significant evidence. It involves thousands of patients and takes a span of 3.5 years. It was noted that between 2011 and 2015 that on a single pivotal, 50 % of new drug approvals were made (Sagineedu et al.). Treatment groups were Experimental Therapy groups and control groups. Pompe disease showed that 70-80 % of children die as a result of cardiac failure before they attain the age of 1 year. In a case study carried out, it was found that in the treatment of Parkisonââ¬â¢s disease by use of antidepressants, 65 % of the patients improved through active drug treatment. In the double-blind study, the percentage of the patients who improved were only 20%. In an early study carried out, it showed that recombinant GAA helped improve cardiac, survival and respiratory functions. It was concluded that patients who received rhGAA had 90% survival chances and were free from ventilation
